The global hydraulic dredging market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of nearly 2.4% during the forecast period. Hydraulic dredgers promote the formation of dredged material and seawater mixtures which are pumped to a dredged material placement site or loaded into the hopper of a vessel which then sails to a placement site. Hydraulic dredges drain off a mixture of water and sediment from the bottom surface. Later, it transfers the mixture with a pipeline to another location. It is the most effective type of dredger for the finely grained material. Hydraulic dredging offers benefits such as a low percentage of suspended sediment, lower costs of purchasing, operating, and maintaining the equipment when compared with mechanical dredging, along with the ability to remove fine materials such as sand and silt. Drawbacks of hydraulic dredging include that it is not suitable for removing larger or coarser dredge materials and takes much time than mechanical dredging.

However, hydraulic dredgers are ideal for the larger bodies of water in which excavators have trouble reaching. Hydraulic dredgers are being significantly used for mining purposes as it is the most efficient technique to extract materials regularly, whether it is gravel, sand, or hard salt deposits. In February 2020, Jan De Nul N.V. introduced its fourth Ultra-Low Emission vessel in Singapore. It comprises the 6,000 m³ trailing suction hopper dredger sanders built at the Keppel Offshore & Marine shipyard. Additionally, in February 2020, National Marine Dredging Corp. in collaboration with Royal IHC launched a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) called GHASHA. The ship comprises a larger dredging depth of 45 meters and an enlarged hopper capacity of 8,000m³.
