The global natural graphite for lithium batteries market is estimated to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. Natural graphite appears to be a viable anode material for lithium-ion batteries. Raw natural graphite flakes were rolled into spheres by impact milling and then covered with carbon by thermal vapor decomposition to improve their electrochemical performance (TVD). In terms of high-rate capacity, high reversible capacity, high coulombic efficiency, and low irreversible capacity, the produced spherical graphite samples perform well. 

The market is expanding owing to the rising demand for electric cars and increased demand for lithium-ion batteries for industrial applications. Furthermore, several major companies in the lithium-ion battery anode market have implemented strategies such as partnerships and plant expansions, which are fuelling the lithium-ion battery anode industry's growth globally. The need for graphite is expected to rise as steel production using the electric arc furnace method increases. Natural graphite is used in the production of crucibles and mag-carbon bricks in refractories. Steel converters and electric arc furnaces both require graphite as a liner. In steel molding applications, several types of alumina-graphite are used in continuous casting ware, such as nozzles and troughs. The rising demand for graphite is likely to be fueled by the increased use of steel. 

Graphite is also used to cover foundry facings to make the removal of hot metal simpler. As graphite is the major component of lithium-ion batteries in electric cars, the expansion of the electric vehicle sector is expected to be the primary driver of the natural graphite market. According to the Electric Vehicle World Sales Database, the fastest-growing EV sales in 2020 will be in Europe at 137%, the US at 4%, and China at 12%, all of which have government subsidies. All these factors are expected to increase the demand for natural graphite for the lithium batteries market.

In October 2019, Tokai COBEX HoldCo GmbH, a producer of carbon and graphite products, was purchased by Tokai Carbon Co. Ltd. In September 2019, Westwater Resources Inc. agreed to buy natural flake graphite from a globally renowned industry for its planned advanced battery materials manufacturing facility. In June 2019, Tokai Carbon Co. Ltd. stated that it is agreed to buy COBEX HoldCo GmbH, a carbon and graphite product manufacturer.
