The global subscriber identity module (SIM) market is estimated to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. Access to a network is granted through a programmable smart card in a mobile device. It contains codes (such as the IMSI) that identify a digital mobile service user as well as information on the particular services that the subscriber has chosen to use. A SIM card can be a removable plastic card with embedded memory and a CPU chip, or it can be permanently installed inside the mobile device.

An e-SIM is a SIM card that has been inserted into a phone, meaning that chips have been installed in the phone to create a programming construct that can function with any system. Rather than being locked onto a single system, an e-SIM card can alter its data configuration whenever the user wants. The e-SIM is a smart device that allows you to switch operators by simply changing the software settings. For instance, Apple used e-sim to add a connection to the Apple Watch Series 3 and Watch Series 4 for the first time. The e-SIM can also be soldered inside a device and then sealed, making it waterproof and temperature resistant.

The global SIM market is expected to grow due to factors such as increased acceptance of IoT technology, increased adoption of connected devices, and favourable government laws promoting machine-to-machine connections. When switching to a new device, the integrated SIMs must register with the account so that the prior number and information may be updated immediately. The latest GSMA version improves the flexibility with which mobile network operators and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) conduct business in the future.
