The market for Synthetic Aperture Radar is anticipated to grow at significant CAGR of XX% during forecast period. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems were previously used to research the interaction of electromagnetic waves with the Earth's surface; however, the development of multi-channel SAR systems has recently permitted the creation of more advanced surveillance tactics. Under all weather conditions, the SAR sensor offers high-resolution data for wide-area surveillance. These technologies are increasingly being used to quickly view marine surfaces for a variety of applications, including vessels, oil spills, laver facilities, surveillance, space, mining, and oil field research.

SAR instruments are active sensors because they can transmit energy toward the Earth and then detect how that energy is scattered once it reaches the surface. SAR equipment detect energy in the microwave and radio sections of the spectrum using radar technology. Because these instruments do not rely on the Sun's energy to acquire surface data,  these can operate at any time of day or night.

The pandemic has raised demand for satellite imagery, which is being used to research the virus's economic impact and conduct remote monitoring of facilities and infrastructure. The oil and gas industry surged in demand; for example, Ursa Space Systems, a provider of satellite data and analytics, in 2020, witnessed the influence of COVID-19 on global oil inventories, since the firm  delivered weekly reports on 11,000 oil storage tanks monitored by SAR satellites.

Despite the numerous benefits offered by SAR systems, it is a significantly underutilised technology, when compared to traditional optical imagery; to address this, the Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced the licencing of Private Remote Sensing Space Systems, which revised the regulations for licencing the operation of private remote sensing space systems, under the Land Remote Sensing Policy Act of 1992.
