In September 2023, Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp. (SSS) released an automotive image sensor, the IMX735, which has a pixel count of 17.4 effective megapixels. This enables high-definition capture of distant objects, which is essential for automated driving systems to accurately perceive the surrounding environment. The IMX735 also has horizontal signal output, which simplifies synchronization with mechanical scanning LiDAR. Additionally, the IMX735 has a wide dynamic range of 106 dB, which is further increased to 130 dB in dynamic range priority mode. This helps suppress highlight blowouts even in backlit conditions, which helps in more precise object capture in road environments with significant differences in brightness.

In September 2023, OmniVision, a semiconductor company, released the OX08D10 8-megapixel CMOS image sensor with TheiaCel technology at AutoSens Brussels. According to the company, the new sensor focuses on automotive safety by providing improved resolution and image quality in exterior cameras for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD). The OX08D10 sensor combines multiple features including low-light performance, LED flicker mitigation (LFM), small size, and low power consumption. This eliminates the need for automotive OEMs to make performance or design compromises to address LED flicker.

In October 2023, Volkswagen developed an algorithm for automotive image recognition that is inspired by quantum computing principles and outperforms classical machine learning neural networks. The algorithm was tested on a car image classification task using a full-scale implementation of a hybrid quantum ResNet model with tensor-trained hyperparameters. The results showed an advantage over the corresponding classical tabular grid search approach used with a deep neural network ResNet34. The hybrid model achieved a classification accuracy of 0.97 after 18 iterations, while the classical model achieved an accuracy of 0.92 after 75 iterations.
