Integration of Advanced Technologies in Laser Cladding Technology to Propel Investments

Published: Apr 2024

Global laser cladding market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 9.5% during the forecast period (2024-2031). A major factor supporting the growth of the market is the rising demand for this technology in various industries which prompted manufacturers to introduce cladding with advanced technology in the market. For instance, in September 2023, Coherent Corp., a leader in pump laser technology for Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) deployed in optical networks, launched the industry's first pump laser module with 1,200 mW output power in a 10-pin butterfly package. The 1,200 mW pump laser provides the additional power needed to amplify the larger number of channels supported by these next-gen ultra-broadband optical transmission systems while meeting the stringent reliability requirements of these advanced networks.

In April 2022, Fraunhofer IWS, a German-based research company developed the HICLAD process to improve laser cladding. IWS demonstrates HICLAD, COAXquattro laser nozzle, and a high-power laser-welded plain beating. Along with a 45-kilowatt diode laser, it will display brake discs coated with high-power laser cladding producing less abrasion and aiding in the reduction of fine dust pollution.

In June 2022, CNH Industrial Reman, a U.S.-based metal parts manufacturing company upgraded its remanufacturing facility with a robotic laser cladding technology. This method enhances the remanufacturing process by significantly boosting core recovery and utilization. Furthermore, this technology contributes to the extension of the life cycle, increased availability, and lower cost of ownership for important remanufactured components in the CNH Reman range.
