The global last mile delivery market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 8.5% during the forecast period (2023-2030). The growth of the global last mile delivery market is contributed to the increasing partnerships among key players to expand geographical reach. For instance, in June 2023, SpiceXpress and Logistics Pvt. Ltd. partnered with Ekart, a supply chain services provider to strengthen its door-to-door delivery capability. As part of this partnership, Ekart will provide first-mile pickup of Cargo shipments and will also help deliver them through last-mile connectivity across all serviceable pin codes in the country. The partnership will enable SpiceXpress, a tech-enabled logistics company, to significantly expand its reach and offer value, speed, and transparency for its customers. With Ekart’s extensive network, SpiceXpress will offer an end-to-end service to its customers across all major industries.

In the same month, global logistics company Flexport acquired Shopify Logistics, adding e-Commerce fulfillment, B2B distribution and last-mile delivery to the company’s portfolio of services. The deal made Flexport the official Shopify Logistics Partner and preferred Shop Promise provider, enabling transparent shipping timelines, including two-day and next-day delivery options to customers. The acquisition is expected to streamline global supply chain operations, “democratizing and leveling the playing field of cost and speed of delivery for all businesses.” It will also offer 3-million-square-feet of warehouse space to support merchants during the upcoming holiday season.
Similarly, Target’s latest supply chain and ecommerce facility is rolling out an extension to reach even more shoppers in Atlanta. The delivery fulfillment extension facility opened in Smyrna, Ga., and expands next-day delivery reach to 500,000 more online customers. Target said that its first fulfillment extension opened near the Smyrna location at less cost than a full-size sortation center. In line with its test-and-learn approach, Target will continue to review expansion plans for these types of facilities as it works to reach more customers.
