Global sensor testing market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% during the forecast period (2023-2030). The global sensor testing industry is growing due to several factors which include the growing adoption of advanced technologies, and increasing safety concerns. Hence, the market players and government are focusing on testing sensors for safety concerns. In May 2023, a new low-cost star sensor, developed by astronomers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) from off-the-shelf components and was recently put into space by Isro’s PSLV C-55 on April 22, started functioning properly in its first test-launch. Named ‘StarBerrySense’, the main function of the payload is to quickly and accurately calculate where a satellite is pointing in space as for any space mission, it is crucial to know the exact positioning of the satellite. The start sensor is capable of finding its pointing direction in space by identifying the stars in its field of view. The astronomers from the Space Payloads Group at the IIA have announced that not only has StarBerrySense withstood the harsh conditions in space and is functioning as expected, but the initial data shows that it can calculate the pointing direction. The StarBerrySense payload is being tested in space for the very first time.

In April 2023, MIT engineers designed a new nanoparticle sensor that could enable early diagnosis of cancer with a simple urine test. The sensors, which can detect many different cancerous proteins, could also be used to distinguish the type of tumor or how it is responding to treatment. The nanoparticles are designed so that when they encounter a tumor, they shed short sequences of DNA that are excreted in the urine. Analyzing these DNA “barcodes” can reveal distinguishing features of a particular patient’s tumor. The researchers designed their test so that it can be performed using a strip of paper, similar to an at-home COVID test, which they hope could make it affordable and accessible to as many patients as possible.
