To put this into perspective, let’s look at data from Possible’s report, according to which, a private jet flight from London to Paris has tax rates or Air Passenger Duty (APD) as low as 2%, whereas a whopping 43% for an economy class and 23% for a business class on a regular flight. The current taxation framework for flights in the UK is established based on two bands, with Band A covering 0-2000 miles and Band B covering 2000-5500 miles. The rates for these bands are divided into 3 sub-categories (based on aircraft efficiency and size) into reduced rate, standard rate, and higher rate. These 3 rates are £13, £26, £78 for Band A and £87, £185, and £554 for Band B. These rates are subject to flight destination, number of passengers as well as size and efficiency of the aircraft – in the case of private jets.
